After care- Aligners

Please follow these steps to ensure that your aligners are well looked after so that it may be well maintained, and your aligner journey be effective:

Do

+ Wear your aligners at least 22 hours a day. (Moving your teeth is like starting a car engine, it takes at least 8 hours for the engine to start and the rest of the time will be when the car moves)

+ Use your munchies every time you put the aligners back on! The more you do it the better the fit and the more effective your aligners will work!
+ Before going to bed: clean the aligner using under the tap using COLD water, use liquid soap or dishwashing liquid with a standard toothbrush

+ Get a bowl/cup and immerse your aligner in cold water. Follow the instructions to put your aligner cleansing tablets (we recommend polident retainer and mouthguard) into the water. We recommend doing this when you’re at home and while eating your meals (i.e., dinner)

+ Rinse your aligner and mouth between eating or meals, as food getting stuck between aligners will make you get dental decay easier. If you’re in a situation where brushing your teeth is inconvenient, we recommend rinsing your mouth with tap water to get rid of food debris.

+ Always store your aligner in the provided mouthguard box whenever you’re not wearing it

Don't

- Eat with your aligners! (They are not designed to be used that way)

- Ideally: don’t wear your aligners if you are doing contact sports and switch to a mouthguard instead.

- Rinse or soak the aligner in HOT OR WARM WATER: will distort the plastic.

- Never use toothpaste to brush the aligner: it will introduce micro-scratches which will discolour your aligners faster than it should.

- Leave your aligners on the restaurant table wrapped up in tissue paper – we have seen restaurant staff throw the paper (and the aligner) away!

- Wear your aligner for less than 22 hours a day!

- Skip your appointments with us if we need to see you to adjust your teeth during certain stages of treatment -> will make treatment time longer.

- Throw your aligners away unless we tell you to, there may be certain stages which we will ask you to back track if there are issues of fit instead of ordering brand new ones.
